The recent official, public release of UniFi Doorbell appeared a great indication of its target audience shifting/adding general consumer as such device is a direct competitor devices like Nest Hello, Ring doorbell etc. Therefore, this may be no surprise, but FCC now shows UniFi is making a UniFi lock.
Features
- Battery Powered
- 2.4 GHz Bluetooth transceiver
This form factor reminds me of my current door lock system, August Smart Lock. There are couple complaints I have/I receive from my family member ever since the installation of the August door lock.
- Too big therefore hard to manipulate manually.
- Poor Wi-Fi reception (requiring Hub)
August Smart Lock is 3.4 inch diameter, which converts to 8.6 cm. UniFi lock is approximately 6.5 cm diameter (~2.6 in). So this seems reasonably smaller in size.
It is listed as only having 2.4 GHz but specifically says bluetooth transceiver on their document. So I wonder not only its lacking 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, which is ok but this device is not Wi-Fi compatible, very strange design decision for 2020.
Missing Features
- Homekit, Alexa or Ok Google compatibility
- WiFi connectivity?
