In June, Sonos will be releasing new OS.
Switching to a new OS will result in expanded capabilities, according to Sonos. Sonos S2 will allow for higher-resolution audio, whereas, right now, the company’s speakers are limited to CD-quality lossless audio.

One of the major limitation on Sonos ecosystem has been the lack of Hi-Res audio support. Whether one can actually hear significant difference in audio quality with Hi-Res format or not, even Amazon is now supporting Hi-Res. So it is no longer niche market.
This will bring especially signifiant competition to brands like Denon and Bluesound as one of the major distinguishing feature of these ecosystem from Sonos are Hi-Res support.
