Troubleshooting
Unstable Connection
Tip: Ensure adequate 2.4 GHz signal
If you see connected device or USP plug itself keep acting up, the first thing to check is make sure that there is enough 2.4 GHz WiFi signal at the where USP Plug is located. This device only connects to 2.4 GHz so if you are someone like myself, make sure you have turned down 2.4 GHz band too much where USP Plug seeing no signal.
USP Plug does not show up on the controller device list
Tip: Turn on Enable element adoption
I tried factory reset and even recovery to flush stable firmware. It turned out this option is what I needed to see the USP Plug on my adoptable device list.
Upgrade/recover Firmware
If resetting does not work, the last resort is install “stable” firmware in recovery mode.
1. Power-off the USP-Plug by unplugging it, then plug it back into the power outlet while keeping the power button pressed down for 10 seconds during boot-up. 2. Once the plug enters recovery mode, the LED pattern will be two short blinks followed by one long blink. 3. With your computer, find the wireless network called “USP1-RECOVERY” and connect to it. 4. Open a browser and navigate to 192.168.4.1 by typing it into the browser bar, accessing the recovery mode user interface. 5. Upload the latest firmware, downloadable from the Downloads page. 6. Wait for the firmware upgrade to finish and plug to go to its default state. |
Unable to complete Firmware loading in recovery mode
Tip: Use Firefox browser
I had tried with Safari and Chrome browsers on my Mac first. Then I tried with Windows 10 Chrome browser. All three successfully opened 192.168.4.1 webpage but after executing firmware upload, the loading page never finishes I.e. eventually timed out. Using Firefox browser on Windows worked for the first time.
