Co-channel Interference (CCI) solution
- Increase physical distance
- Change to channel
- Decrease transmission power of interference source
Change Channel
In general, having two loud speakers (APs) in a same room (close physical distance) on a same floor (channel) is not a good idea (ignoring stereo speaker here). Besides increasing the physical distance, you can put speakers (APs) on a different floor (channel). In order to avoid CCI, one can simply select another channel that is the least utilized**.
*”General” is used here because there is special design that specifically use the same/single channel including consumer mesh network system e.g. Orbi, Eero. This will be discussed in separate article.
**For Adjacent Channel Interference solution, channel selection may become more stringent.
Decrease transmission power
Ability to be able to control transmission power of AP is a powerful tool for controlling interference.
In North 5F, two speakers are playing at full volume; therefore, two audio are interfering each other in the middle. On the contrary, reduced volume of two speakers (= reduce transmission power of APs) have no interference between the two in the N4 unit. Interference are solved without increasing actual physical distance.
