[UniFi] UniFi Dream Router (FCC Listing) | UDM Base WiFi 6 Version?

FCC listing has a new entry called UniFi Dream Router.

One is that this device has a label form factor of UniFi Dream Machine (Base).

The second is this machine has Wi-Fi 6 compatibility.

So the educated guess here is that this is UniFi Dream Machine Base WiFi 6 version until proven otherwise.

Other things we know about the device are:

  • This is a dual band system as with most other UniFi access point devices i.e. no second 5 GHz band.
  • This is not Wi-Fi 6E capable since we do not see 6 GHz operating frequency support.

Why is the name changing?

Currently, it is called UniFi Dream Machine. This unit is called UniFi Dream Router. So the machine has been replaced with router. I believe the main reason is to simply distinguish the device being purely network related system i.e. only performs UniFi Network controller function, but not others like UniFi Protect.

It just sounds more clear than keep calling UniFi Dream Machine and users put “Base” afterward to distinguish from UniFi Dream Machine Pro.

It is important to note to those who do not know the current UniFi Dream Machine base (UDM) specification that even current generation UDM does not support anything other than UniFi Network Controller. So it is something like they are getting rid of existing functionality.
